The Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts. is proud to present, by popular demand, the debut performances of
"CLOSER TO YOU": A LIVE TRIBUTE TO THE CARPENTERS
Featuring GRAMMY Nominated Vocalist JUDY PANCOAST and Musical Director Michael Pierce.
A most romantic way to celebrate the most romantic weekend of the year, with the timeless love songs of The Carpenters, including such classics as "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays," "I Won't Last a Day Without You" and, of course, "Close to You."
When Judy Pancoast’s fans remark that she sounds “just like Karen Carpenter,” it’s no coincidence. Pancoast was just eleven years old when her older sister told her about a song she’d heard on the radio, and said that the girl singing it sounded “just like you.” That was the summer of 1970, and when Judy finally heard “(They Long to Be) Close to You” it was the beginning of a childhood adulation that would last well into her adult years. She spent her adolescent and teen years listening nearly non-stop to the music of the brother and sister duo who called themselves “Carpenters”, and became on of the charter members of their fan club at age 12. She saw them in concert five times and, in what remains one of the great thrills of her life, wrangled her way backstage to meet them at a concert in Portland, Maine in October, 1973.
Judy’s natural rich alto voice blended well with Karen’s, and she spent countless hours in front of a mirror with a hair brush “microphone” mimicking her idol’s voice. Later, while a music major at the University of Maine, she was advised to “stop trying to sound like Karen Carpenter,” but although she managed finally to all but erase the traces of Karen’s stylings, the influence had already had its impact. To this day she is delighted when fans who have no idea of her long history with the music of The Carpenters tell her she sounds “A lot like Karen Carpenter,” and she considers it the greatest compliment of all. She is thrilled beyond measure to have been invited to perform this tribute concert with her long-time friend and fellow Carpenters’ fan, Michael Pierce.
The concert will not only include the chart topping hits that made The Carpenters the best-selling duo of the 1970’s, but will also include Judy’s some of Judy’s favorite album cuts.
Performances will be held Friday, February 10 at 8pm, and Sunday, February 12 at 2pm. Tickets Go On Sale Wed Jan 4, 2012 and may be purchased by calling 781-646-4TIX (4849). Reserved seats are $20 advance; $25 day of show.

October 28, 2010 From Manning Close, UK
Dec 1st sees number 18 Manning Close in a quiet cul-de-sac light up a corner of the city of Wells, England, UK. Resident Paul Toole has been decorating the outside of his home for the past 10 years, and this year he's pulled out all the stops to top all previous seasons. This year, he will be using an amazing 37,000 Christmas lights, all of which are LED, which not only will cut down on the electricity bill, but also do their bit to help the environment. Toole is expecting over 700 guests at the lighting this year, including American singer-songwriter Judy Pancoast who will to perform a concert of her favourite holiday tunes, including her holiday hit, “The House on Christmas Street.”
“We're so pleased and excited to have Judy Pancoast come across the pond to us,” says Toole. “Having Judy with us on the switch on night, is a DREAM come true. I've used Judy's music in my display for the past 4 years; her songs tell a story about Christmas with which we are all so familiar.”
Wells is England’s smallest city, and home to many historical religious treasures, including Wells Cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of Bath and Wells, who lives at the adjacent Bishop’s Palace.
Martin Roberts from BBC 1's Prime Time show "Homes Under the Hammer" will be throwing on the switch to set the guests in a-glow of lights, while the Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Sam Mason, legendary newsreader from the West Country also from The BBC & ITV.
Santa will be present for the kids, and the adults will all be indulged in Mulled wine & mince pies.
Toole’s display features a collecting bin for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation UK, and he is hoping to beat last years total amount raised £1,650 ($2,400).
He says, ‘That would be BRILLIANT!!”
And, of course, so will the display.
The House On Christmas Street International Tour 2010
It’s a rare person who wouldn’t give up on a childhood dream after thirty-six years of chasing it, and Judy Pancoast is that person. The 51-year old singer-songwriter from New Hampshire signed her first songwriting contract at the age of 15, and after years of ups and downs in the music business she is still chasing her dream of a hit song. This December she’s chasing it all over the United States by performing in concerts at houses that are “playing” her song, “The House on Christmas Street,” in their animated Christmas displays.
Pancoast wrote the song in 1998 as a tribute to those homeowners who go out of their way to deck their houses in lights and pageantry each Christmas season; the ones who do it just to make a little magic for the young and the young at heart.
“Everywhere I’ve lived there’s been one of those houses,” says Pancoast. “It’s the one that everybody goes to see during the holidays. I have wonderful memories of going to see them as a kid, and when I was in my 20’s there was actually one house that cheered me during a very depressing chapter in my life.”
After recording the song on her Christmas CD Pancoast pitched it to radio year after year, to no avail. She was told time and time again that her song would never be played until the music directors at the stations knew who she was. It seemed like a daunting task, and after several years of trying, Pancoast moved on to other musical projects.
It was in 2006 that Pancoast’s husband discovered the first video online of a house that was playing her song in its animated display.
“I have no idea how that first homeowner found it, but before long there were other videos popping up on various sites, and through them I found out about a worldwide network of “extreme” decorators who share information through a few online sites,” Pancoast marvels. “They’ve welcomed me into their community with open arms, and made “The House on Christmas Street” their theme song.”
A recent YouTube search turned up over a hundred results for “The House on Christmas Street,” with videos from all over the world showcasing houses with light shows synchronized to the song. Homeowners tell her that it is one of the most requested songs in their line-up, but Pancoast still can’t get many radio stations to give it a shot. So this year, in an effort to build a “buzz” around the song that can’t be ignored, she is spending the holiday season driving around the country in her 2004 van (which already has over 315,000 miles on it) and performing live public concerts on the lawns, porches and driveways of houses that are using her song in their displays. She’s literally going in a circle around the country, from New Hampshire to Washington to Texas and Florida and along the east coast. She’s even being flown to the United Kingdom by a fan to perform at his house “lighting” on December first, with hopes of having the song played on the BBC. That’s how much Christmas decorators around the world love the song.
At every stop homeowners will be collecting donations for a local charity to fulfill Judy’s wish of improving each community she visits in some small way. Charities to benefit from Judy’s concerts include women’s shelters, food banks, a “no-kill” animal shelter, Special Olympics, volunteer firefighters and more. The final stop on the tour will have Judy attempting a sing-a-thon, singing “The House on Christmas Street” as many times as she can in a row, with pledges going to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

Elvis Expert Loves Judy's Elvis Tribute
Who would have thought that one day Judy Pancoast would have something in common with Elvis Presley?
Well, it turns out that Jay Gordon, internationally recognized authority on the music and life of Elvis Presley and the host of the syndicated radio program Elvis Only, is also a Judy Pancoast fan.
Upon hearing Judy's song "A Little Bit of Elvis," Gordon said, “Judy Pancoast captures more than a “little bit” of the spirit of Elvis in “A Little Bit of Elvis.” It appeals to kids of all ages.”
Gordon has reported and commented on Elvis events for TV, radio and print outlets worldwide, and contributed to several books about The King. He has worked closely with Graceland on events, and narrated the hit DVD, "Welcome Home Elvis."
Gordon commended Judy for her efforts to educate children about Elvis through her music. She wrote the tribute song upon realizing that many of today's children are growing up not knowing about the impact he made on American music and music worldwide.
"He's not only an important figure in music history, but he's an important figure in American history as well. I always tell kids that when the Beatles first came to the US, one of the first people they wanted to meet was Elvis. He truly is still the King of Rock and Roll."
"A Little Bit of Elvis" is included on Judy's CD The Tune Room and may be downloaded as a single or part of the album on iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic and many other digital download services.
